Why Own Stocks?
Owning shares in a company means owning a piece of its future. As businesses grow and profits rise, so does the value of your investment. The NSE has produced some of Africa's most rewarding long-term returns — start small, stay consistent, grow wealthy.
The Power of Dividends
Dividends are your share of a company's profits — paid to you just for holding the stock. Many NSE-listed companies pay annual yields of 3–8%, meaning your money works for you even while you sleep. Reinvest dividends to harness the power of compounding over time.
Know Your Risks
Stock prices fluctuate daily. Companies can underperform, cut dividends, or face economic headwinds. Never invest money you cannot afford to lose. Diversify across sectors, research before buying, and consider consulting a licensed financial advisor before making investment decisions.

How to Buy Shares on the NSE

Traditionally, you need to open a Central Depository System (CDS) account through a licensed stockbroker. Once set up, you can place buy or sell orders via the broker. With the new Ziidi Trader, you can trade directly from your M-PESA app without a traditional CDS account.

Opening a CDS Account

Visit a licensed stockbroker or bank offering brokerage services. Provide your national ID, proof of address, and bank details. Fill out the application form and submit. The process typically takes a few days, after which you receive your CDS number for trading.

Ziidi Trader: The Recent Innovation

Launched in late 2025 by Safaricom, Ziidi Trader is a feature in the M-PESA app that allows users to buy and sell NSE shares instantly. No paperwork or traditional broker required—just use your M-PESA balance.
